What day of the week do you update the website to show upcoming movies?

We update the website by Wednesday every week.

Do you accept Credit Cards?

We will NEVER accept credit cards at the Box Office. Quite simply, it would slow down the line, and cause traffic to back up on MARYLAND STATE ROUTE 150!

However, we DO accept credit cards (Visa & MasterCard only) at the snack bar!

Do you have an ATM?

No, we do not have an ATM. The problems associated with having an ATM on premises are too great to justify the risk.

How do I hear the movies?

If you use your vehicle's radio, be sure to turn your key to the ACCESSORY position, not the Ignition/ON position - to conserve your car battery. This is extremely important. If you do not know where the "ACCESSORY" position is on your ignition switch, please check your owner's manual.

You can listen to the movie over any AM or FM radio - However, we suggest an FM Stereo. AM broadcast is a "mono" broadcast. We recommend use of your car stereo or radio, a boom box, or a personal Walkman-type radio! IMPORTANT: If your stereo has an equalizer on it, your best sound for the Movie is to put the equalizer controls to the "ZERO" or "NULL" point. Likewise, you should set your "Treble" and "Bass" controls to the mid-position, or "null" point. Our Dolby unit is set already for the best equalization for the left, right, center and surround and sub-woofer, so if you try to modify it, you could hear sounds you should not, not hear sounds you should, or cause the stereo to "crackle."

NOTE: ALL radios and boom boxes must be tuned to the movie, or the volume must be so low no one else can hear it. It will greatly interfere with the enjoyment of others if you are listening to something else, and those trying to watch the show can hear something other than the movie! PLEASE use headsets or extremely low volume if you intend to listen to something other than the show.

What are your ticket prices?

Since ticket pricing depends on the "run" and what features are involved, please see our "Admission" page for more information. For specific info from week to week, please contact the recorded information line.

A ticket purchase provides you admission to see all movies playing that night, or whatever is left to see. Whether it be a DouBBle or TriPPPle feature. (If there is ever a condition that would not permit this, the patron will be informed at the box office, on the recording, and on the web site. This rarely occurs.)

Do you offer group pricing or discount tickets?

We cannot offer group discounts on tickets, as we are bound by the film company license agreements that do not allow us to discount our already low admission prices.

Do you open if it's raining?

Yes, we are open rain or not.

When is the best time to arrive?

Weekends are especially busy, so arrive early.

REMEMBER: The >>CLOSER<< it gets to sunset the  - L - O - N - G - E - R -  the line will become. No Fooling!

Can I arrive after the first movie has started?

You are welcome to arrive at anytime, as long as the Box office is open.

We have a large group coming. Can we reserve parking in advance?

Sorry, we cannot reserve parking. Try to arrive as early as possible to increase your chances of parking together as a group.

Can I park my car with my friend in the area reserved for larger vehicles so that we can be together?

We would suggest arriving as close to the box office opening as possible to make sure you can get spaces together. Also, Cars have more flexibility in parking; however, there are certain rows (ramps) that are reserved strictly for vehicles other than a regular car. In these cases, the car usually can park in front of the van, truck, MPV ect.

Why do you park vehicles the way you do? Why not let us park anywhere we want?

The Bengies was designed in 1955, for the 1956 opening. At the time, there were not a lot of vehicles other than a regular car. Pick-up trucks and vans were not the normal family vehicle. The Bengies is "double" ramped. There are 2 rows (ramps) together, between the roadways. If a larger vehicle parks on the "odd" numbered ramps, the space behind them is lost to all vehicles. Not even another van or high top can see over it! We do allow larger vehicle parking in the "wings" on most nights, which means more forward positions in the upper ramping area, off to each side of the theatre away from center, so that everyone can see, and a lot of folks who arrive early can park closer to the screen.

Generally, vehicles other than a regular car are parked carefully to keep the site lines open for everyone. We usually begin filling ramp 10, and work our way back on the even numbered rows for all vehicles other than a regular car, because we need to fill the spaces and cannot just open the field all at once

Can I sit outside my car, in lawn chairs, on a blanket, on the roof?

You are welcome to sit outside of your vehicle, in lawn chairs or on blankets. We ask that you place lawn chairs and blankets between your vehicle and the screen, and not to take up an additional parking space next to your car, and be very careful not to over-extend your parking area into another. This is also for safety reasons as an approaching vehicle looking for a parking spot might not be able to see you or your children sitting on the ground!

You may not sit on the roof of your vehicle because you will obstruct the view of patrons behind you, and it is a terribly unsafe thing to do.

Can I open my hatch back?

Hatch backs should be raised no higher than the top of your vehicle (level with your roof). If your hatch opens above your roofline this blocks the view of others. You are responsible for keeping it lowered using a rope, bungee cord, or by a similar method.

I have a pickup truck, (or Mini Van), can I park backwards and sit in the back to watch the movies?

Yes, HOWEVER, please conform to all of the other rules. For example, if you bring high chairs and sit in the bed of the pick-up truck, you may be sitting higher than the top clearance of your vehicle. This would then interfere with sight-lines for others further back. If you open the doors or windows to your vehicle and they are allowed to swing up past the top clearance of the vehicle, then again, there is a problem. If you open the doors to your van and the doors end up in another patron's space, then it will cause a problem.

Why does the Bengies have an Outside Food & Beverage policy?

Before we begin to answer that question, please answer these questions for us:

  1. Why can you not take food and beverages into an indoor theatre?
  2. What business anywhere that sells food, allows you to bring in food and/or beverages from other places?
  3. Why can you not take your MacDonald's meal into Pizza Hut and eat it there. (After all, I am sure you would buy a Coke to appease the owner!)

Patrons need to realize that the lion's share of the admission goes to pay the distributor for the movie(s) and the way all theatres profit is by selling food!

How much is your Outside Food & Beverage permit? Where do I get one?

Currently the Outside Food & Beverage Permit is $10.00. The outside food permit is sold at the box office. It allows ONLY the person(s) who arrived in that vehicle to consume the outside food and or beverages they brought in. We often find violators, so please do not "cheat," because we absolutely must and do enforce this. There are not enough of us to "sort" out who has a permit and who does not, so PLEASE do not take your outside food into another car, or allow a person who arrived in another vehicle to get inside your vehicle, or "stray" into your group. If all parties want to be together and want to roam in other friends vehicles who have an outside food and/or beverages permit, be sure everyone in the party has a permit! We realize that a lot of patrons want to "mill around" and often folks ask why we do not use "bracelets" or other devices (like a hand stamp) to identify those who are permitted to have outside food from those who do not. The answer is: WE DO NOT WANT TO PROMOTE or ENCOURAGE folks to bring in outside food and/or beverages in the first place! It is offered as a courtesy ONLY. The permit was designed to be a benefit for the patron, not to be a problem to us. We would much prefer that you buy your meals and snacks from us. We have considered and are still considering just restricting outside food and/or beverages altogether, JUST LIKE ANY OTHER BUSINESS. After all, it is selling food that will keep the Bengies in place. The average patron must realize that the lion's share of the admission goes to pay the distributor for the movie(s) and the way all theatres profit is by selling food!

Why do you restrict audio recording, video and cam recording, picture taking, and so on?

There are many reasons for this. As we began in 1988, there was not a need for restriction. Then, folks started to snap pictures. Next, they kept on "snapping" right through the movie! As we progressed into the mid 90's, folks began selling posters of the Bengies Drive-In Theatre, and then "photo sets" of the Bengies over the internet. To add insult to injury, my voice was recorded, along with parts of the copyrighted film, and that was being used in ways you could not even imagine. I was strongly cautioned by the legal folks to protect my "proprietary rights" as well as my legal liability for allowing copyrighted material to be recorded, and restrict it altogether. Still, instead of doing that, I tried to contain the damage by allowing it if people signed an agreement. That did not work out; as soon as someone else saw a "flash" they pulled out their camera and joined in without permission. I kept trying to allow it, and then I was approached by a patron whose face ended up on the internet, because they were accidentally "captured" in the background of a photo that I did not give the person permission to take. Now we had to consider "privacy rights. At the time came the theft of copyrighted material, and ALL THEATRES in AMERICA as well as the distributors realized that that having cameras and recording devices in a movie theatre was just not what should be allowed, you are asking for trouble by allowing it. The Bengies is a landmark, and I certainly understand why a lot of folks want to photograph it, and why many want to record the audio because they think they have a right to do that. Understand also that it is also a MOTION PICTURE THEATRE. Please understand there is no way to control it anymore and there is way too much to risk by allowing it in any way, shape or form. We go out of our way to entertain you, PLEASE capture the memory in your heart and mind, and not on devices that have no business being in a movie theatre! You may record NOTHING you may capture an image of NOTHING. DO NOT USE CELL PHONES to capture and Image of ANYTHING. Please see the house rules and policies on this matter.

Can you tell me what will be playing at the Bengies the week after next?

The owner "books" the theatre himself. He books on Monday for the upcoming Friday, as this is the only way it can be done effectively. Occasionally we will know something playing ahead and when we do, we publish it. Unfortunately, we cannot answer this question with any degree of certainty. Likewise, people often want to know what is playing because they want to have a party here, and it will depend on the movies that are playing. Because of the circumstance of how we must operate we are very sorry that these questions cannot be given out any sooner than they already are.

My child's birthday is coming soon. Can you host the birthday party?

No, not at this time. However you can host the party. If you are bringing in party food, be sure that all vehicles involved have an outside food and beverage permit, (see the FAQ on Outside Food and/or Beverages.) Also, we offer may items at the concession stand that can be shared for low expense.

I have food allergies. What type of oil do you fry your food in?

We use a Zero Trans Fat soy and sunflower eed oil blend, and Zero trans Fat Coconut Oil for popping our DELICIOUS and unbeatable popcorn!

I think I lost something at the Bengies. Do you have a "Lost & Found"?

My goodness YES! If you have lost something, please contact us via fax: (410) 687-5627 or (410) 391-1956. NEVER set your fax to keep calling automatically until the line is clear, or we will have no choice other than to block your number from the line. You may also e-mail us click here.

NOTE: We are unable to answer individual comments and other questions faxed to us through this line! PLEASE do not fax anything to us except lost and found requests.

I keep faxing and e-mailing you, and I am not getting a response. I sent a letter that was never answered. What's up with that?

The majority of all of these "questions" and comments are left up to the owner to reply. Please understand that there is a lot to operating this landmark, and if time allows, we try to get to everything, but consider the time spent in just operating the theatre, and preparing it to operate. We are endeavoring to set more responsive methods in place, but please realize, we cannot always get back to everyone in a timely way. This is not a giant corporation here, we are always stretched and pressed for time. Also, if you use the US Mail, please make sure there is a valid return address on it. Mail sent to us with no return address, with a phony return address, or one that does not validate before the envelope is opened is simply thrown away. If the return address is valid and when opened, it did not come from that address, well, you can guess what happens to that. Also, in the years I have operated this landmark, I have had MANY wonderful letters sent that I simply did not have the time to answer! I apologize for this. As folks attend and get to know the Bengies, they come to understand just how much work is involved, and often I am immediately forgiven. Likewise, there have been a few "scathing" letters sent by folks who tried to skirt the rules, or defraud the theatre and were thrown out. Let me just say that since I cannot answer all of the wonderful letters that are sent to me, I certainly am not going to take my time to explain that we fully intend to enforce the rules we have put in place

Is there a flea market at the Bengies? If so, what are your hours?

Our Flea Market has been temporarily suspended! Please Click Here

Do you rent your theatre for special events? If so, who do I contact about this?

Yes, the theatre can be rented, but not when it interferes with the regular operation of the theatre. It is not an inexpensive thing to rent. If you are interested in renting the theatre, please send the request in writing to the mailing address, and please include as many details as possible.

I would like to see my favorite movie at the Bengies. Can I make a movie request?

Yes! To request a movie please click here. Or you can fill out the flyer you receive at the box office.

I know the Bengies is an outdoor theatre but do you have a non-smoking section?

No, we do not. However if you are being bothered by smoke, please see the attendants, and we can often re-locate you or the other vehicle. Keep in mind if neither party wants to co-operate, there is not a lot we can do. Keep in mind there is a rule that smoker's need to follow. Please see the Ramp and Field security folks for assistance, and refer to the House rules and policies.

Can I order Bengies memorabilia on-line?

You sure can. We are set up to do this ONLINE via PayPal or by printing an order form via U.S. Mail.  Go to the "Order Bengies Stuff!" page

I would like to advertise on the Bengies Marquee during your off-season. Do you have a marquee rental policy?

Yes. However, it is a "hot" commodity, and it is not inexpensive. It is mostly occupied with ads already committed, and also, we are a big promoter of this wonderful area. Often, a community event needs displayed, and we will cut a possible paid ad for the free community message. If you want to advertise, please submit these requests in writing, with details, and contact info via US Mail, or through the comments page on this web site.

Do you sell Bengies Gift Certificates?

Not yet. There is a lot to be worked out first; hopefully soon they will be available.

I heard that you had a "By Invitation Only" feature at the Bengies last year. How do I get invited?

Normally, this sort of thing happens quickly, if it is a promotional screening or last minute event, so if you are on the Bengies Email list (go to our Join Our Mailing List page to sign up) you are given the opportunity to attend. If we know of something way ahead of time, we do maintain a U.S. mailing list, and we can and sometimes do use this method

Are you hiring at the Bengies? If so, how do I apply?

We advertise in the local papers, and take applications only at certain times. We are hoping to set up a link on the website for this, however, all applications must be made in person, and only at the specified times. Currently we run ads in: The Avenue News, The Dundalk Eagle, and often, the East County Times.

Are pets permitted at the Bengies?

This is a precarious situation. Currently, we will allow only animals that are eligible for a leash, and yes, it must be kept on a leash, as well as having the owner conform to the following: If the animal is outside the car, the owner must keep it from straying into another space, and the animal should have a muzzle to protect others from being bitten. The owner is always responsible for picking up after the animal, you must bring a "pooper scooper" or other device, and dispose of the waste properly. We will gladly give you plastic bags for disposal of waste at the Box Office and at the concession stand. NEVER allow your animal to be unattended AT ANY TIME! If you are going outside your car to the rest rooms, the concession building or playground, you must not "tie" your animal up and abandon it while you are using the facilities. If the animal is outside the vehicle, you are on the other end of the leash. If the animal is inside the vehicle, the windows and openings of the vehicle must restrict the animal from being able to put its head out of the opening (so it cannot "snap" at anyone going past the vehicle.) Any irresponsible behavior will not be tolerated, and if there is ever a problem, this policy is very likely to change. ALL PET OWNER'S MUST SEE AND ABIDE BY THE PET POLICY POSTED IN THE SNACK BAR AND WHAT IS POSTED ON THE HOUSE RULES AND POLICY PAGE.
